New Students

Introduction

For a general introduction, you can make an appointment with the director Eva Kleipool. She provides information about our school and answers your questions. Additionally, you will receive a tour of our main building and kindergarten building. We believe it’s important for parents to be well-informed about different schools so they can make an informed choice.

If you would like an introductory meeting, click on the “Request Introduction” button below.

Registration

When your child turns four, they can start primary school. Since September 2023, all 23 primary schools of the five school boards in Amstelveen and Ouderkerk have adopted the same method for registering and allocating places to future four-year-olds.

With this new method of registration and placement, every child has an equal chance of getting a preferred primary school under equal circumstances. To ensure that children can attend school as close to home as possible, each child has priority at the four nearest schools within walking distance.

When you enter your child’s home address on www.amstelveen.nl/basisonderwijs, you can see if our school is a priority school for your child. You may register your child at any school in Amstelveen and Ouderkerk.

How do I register my child for primary school?

Parents with a child born between September 1, 2021, and August 31, 2022, are invited to register their son or daughter with us by the closing date at the latest. At the end of October 2024, these parents were sent the registration form and the brochure ‘Starting primary school for the first time in Amstelveen and Ouderkerk’. If our school is your first choice, please submit the registration form to us.

Date of birth: September 1, 2021, to December 31, 2021: register by February 27, 2025
Date of birth: January 1, 2022, to April 30, 2022: register by May 27, 2025
Date of birth: May 1, 2022, to August 31, 2022: register by October 2, 2025

Within ten school days, you will receive a confirmation of registration by email. Please check this confirmation of registration. If you register your child after the closing date, you will be limited to the places that are still available (in the relevant birth months) after the municipal placement.

Children born after August 31, 2022, cannot be registered yet. If your child was born between September 1, 2022, and August 31, 2023, you will receive an invitation to register your child in October 2025.

Important: Always (re)register! Even if you have expressed interest in our school in the past, it is necessary to submit the registration form to us. Children who already have an older sibling at our school are guaranteed a place, provided the registration form is submitted on time.

A place at the primary school

After the closing date, places at all 23 primary schools are allocated to all registered children who turn four in the same period. This automated placement proceeds in the order below; this takes place under the responsibility of the joint school boards.

During the placement, each child is given a place at the highest possible school of preference. When there are sufficient places at a school, all children are placed at their first choice school. When a child cannot be placed at their first choice school, they are placed at their second, third, or subsequent preference based on availability. Only if your child remains unplaced will they then be eligible for a place at one of the non-specified priority schools. These have been added to your confirmation of registration during the processing of the application. For your first choice school, the placement is as follows:

  1. Your child has an older sibling at the school when your child turns four; your younger child has a guaranteed place.
  2. Your child attends childcare at an Integral Child Center (IKC) or Montessori Child Center (MKC) for at least one year, for a minimum of two half-days per week, AND has the school as a priority school.
  3. Your child has the school as a priority school.
  4. Your child does not have priority at this school but lives in Amstelveen or Ouderkerk aan de Amstel.

After that, children who did not get their first preference are placed as follows:

  1. Your child has a priority school as their second to sixth preference.
  2. Your child has a non-priority school as their second to sixth preference and lives in Amstelveen or Ouderkerk aan de Amstel.
  3. Your child lives outside Amstelveen or Ouderkerk aan de Amstel.

Final enrollment at the primary school

If you have registered your child, you will receive a letter within two weeks after the closing date from the school where your child has been placed. This letter will include the final enrollment date by which you must inform the school whether you will be using this reserved place for your child. If your child has a place at Het Palet, you will also receive the registration form from our school. Please note! The place for your child is only final after submitting the registration form.

No Application Form?

If you have not received an application form from the municipality, you can use the form below. In that case, it is important that you submit proof of address for your child with your application form to claim priority for the preferred schools; Application Form Primary School Amstelveen-Ouderkerk

Information About the Admission Policy

Information about the admission policy (such as frequently asked questions) can be found on www.basisscholenamstelveen-ouderkerk.nl. For questions about the admission policy, you can contact the helpdesk: helpdesk@basisscholenamstelveen-ouderkerk.nl or by phone at 020-426 24 67

Intake Interview with the Teacher

The teacher in whose group the child will be placed will make an appointment with the parents for an intake interview 8-10 weeks before the child’s fourth birthday and a maximum of 6 familiarization moments. These familiarization moments take place as close as possible to the first day of school. The new child is welcome at our school immediately after their 4th birthday. We advise parents with a child whose birthday is in December to start school after the Christmas holiday.
